Digestive Health Microbiome: Video Series

Responsibilities: Project Lead, Art Direction, Design & Illustration, Storyboarding, Script
Project completed while at Pivot Design Group

Sponsored by Danone, the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation was looking to create a mini-series of animated videos that would speak to and educate the household’s primary shopper, “mom”, about the importance of the human microbiome. The 3-5 minute videos, used quirky characters, a bright, on-brand colour palette, and warm and inviting voiceovers. Scroll down to watch the videos.

Introducing the Human Gut Microbiome

A troup of bacterial superheroes living in your gut works very hard to help keep you healthy, strong and resilient. The first in the video series, this video kicked off the series by establishing the tone of voice, colour palette, and overall aesthetic and motion design style.

Understanding Pre- and Probiotics

This entertaining educational video teaches about the benefits of pre- and probiotics, explains how to select, ingest and store them, and helps viewers understand what to be aware of when purchasing these non-regulated ingestibles. Continuing with the styles established in the first video, this one became a challenge in consistency of storytelling and script writing.

The Game of Microbes

Leagues of superheroes live in your gut. They fight bad microorganisms and work to keep you healthy. Missing key players on your superhero team can bring about an unbalanced playing field and create an environment primed for disease. The third video in the series, this became an opportunity to have a little more fun with our established brand and identity for the series and to drive home the importance of the the subject matter through meaningful storytelling and design.

Understanding Constipation

The final video in the series, was one that dealt with subject matter that the average person might giggle at or find hard to talk about (pun intended!) so I decided to lean-in to the giggle-factor and design content and visuals to overcome the audience’s stigma around constipation.
